Not Much is Known

Not all the facts about Dolphineas are in fact, some more hearsay and conjecture, but that is all we have to work with. His full name, he says, is Captain Dolphineas Poppy, Official Raconteur of the Duchy of Oogmore by the Sea and once the Commodore of the Liechtenstein naval reserve. Not much is known about his childhood. His father was a poor Earl of a castle of ruins in Oogmore by the Sea who made his living as a avantgarde painter and his mother this time was a brilliant Belgium professor of medical statistics and colourful drunkard. Dolphineas writes songs and poems of an unfixed nature; however, the Sea is often a common theme in his work. On seeing Dolphineas take the stage from the audience and sing one of his shanties in the Wiener Staatsoper performance of The Nutcracker it was said the critic Eduard Hanslick exclaimed " Get that Absinthe soaked rag off the stage, for the love of god some one get the police, I think I going to be sick"

It is hard to track Dolphineas and we often lose track of him for years at a time. One time after becoming established as an East Vancouver street poet Dolphineas disappeared only to turn up on a cabbage farm in Ring's End England. He was working under the name of a Welsh pirate. The next time we found him working in the Suriname city Paramaribo as a Private Detective with an office on Zinnia street in a booth in a cafe. Another time , we just happened to be recording an older Dolphineas poem in a studio on the eastern shore of Nova Scotia, when we heard a holler from the sea outside the picture window. It was Dolphineas. We ran out as he came crashing in on top of a huge wave clutching a broken long board. What was even odder was he was eating what seemed to be a relatively fresh fried  egg sandwich. He also will write about himself in the third person view.

Elena Allegretti was born near Scala dei Turchi in southern Italy. Her father was a Portuguese sailor who washed up on the south coast of Sicily and was pulled from the ocean by the local librarian of a small but ancient collection of books on alchemy housed in the basement of a pharmacy. She has a doctorate in both topology and philosophy from the University of Estados Velhos. One of her fondest memories is of her mother unsuccessfully combing down the cow lick on her fathers head. She has been accused of knowing secrets which slip out only as a mono lisa smile. People from her student days claimed she often tried to drink her graffe or take a bite out of her tiny Ristretto mug when she was deep in thought working on her formulas. They said Elena was an extraordinary student but that also she was a little too brilliant for her own breakfast.

The Manifesto of Captain Dolphineas Poppy "Searching for the Symmetry in the Salvage." Whether I am behind the wheel, navigating the strings of a Maccaferri guitar, or scouring the shoreline for buried treasure, I am looking for the same thing: The Golden Thread. At captaindolphineaspoppy.com, we believe that life doesn’t happen in a straight line—it happens in a waltz. My mission is to curate a space where the discarded becomes the divine. Here, you will find: The Salvage: Hand-picked oceanic artifacts, silver, and brass—objects with a history that deserve a future. The Music: Original compositions like The Waking Dream, crafted in the resonance of Manouche jazz and the rhythm of the tides. The Philosophy: A deep dive into the logic of our lives, guided by our Resident Philosopher, Elena Allegretti, exploring the mathematics of how we love and how we dream. I don’t just find things; I find the story they were waiting to tell. Welcome to the waking dream. Let’s see what we can uncover together. ” - Captain Dolphineas Poppy
